Women's 400m medley relay

Australia did take gold in the women's 400 meter medley relay. They blazed to the finish in a world record time of 3 minutes 52.69 seconds, slashing over three seconds off the previous mark. The United States were also ahead of the old mark but finished second in 3:53.30 seconds for silver. China came in third for the bronze medal.

Men's 1500m freestyle swimming results

In the men's 1500 meter freestyle, Oussama Mellouli won Tunisia's first Olympic swimming gold medal in a time of 14 minutes, 40.84 seconds. Australia's Grant Hackett, who holds the world and Olympic record in the event, had to settle for the silver. Canadian Ryan Cochrane led the race early but ended up with bronze.
