The delegations are in Beijing to attend the seventh session of the SCO security council secretaries from Wednesday to Thursday. Meng is scheduled to meet with the Uzbek delegation on Thursday.

The SCO, founded on June 15, 2001, has become an important platform for the six members to conduct cooperation on security and law enforcement and maintain peace and stability in the region, Meng said during the meetings.

The state councilor said it is even more necessary and urgent for the SCO members to enhance their security cooperation as the "three evil forces" of separatism, extremism and terrorism are still active and threatening the security and stability of the member nations as well as the region.

The nations concerned should strengthen cooperation between their law-enforcement and security agencies, and increase efforts to battle the "three evil forces," drug trafficking and cross-border organized crimes, and "reduce the room for East Turkistan forces," Meng said.

The SCO members should also improve the SCO's emergency mechanism, boost cooperation to ensure security of large-scale events and joint projects and to safeguard peace and stability of border areas, he added.

The heads of the delegations said they accept China's view on security cooperation and expressed their willingness to step up security cooperation within the SCO framework with a view to promoting peace and development of the region as well as of the world at large, according to a news release from the Chinese side after their meetings with Meng.
