Famous Taiwan singer and songwriter Chyi Chin suffered burns to his face, back and chest yesterday at his home in Beijing when a traditional Chinese medicinal therapy went horribly wrong.

Chyi Chin, 51, was rushed to the hospital early Thursday morning after a therapist accidentally spilled alcohol on his body during a traditional Chinese medicinal treatment known as cupping, causing a fire.

The mishap follows an accident last year when Selina, a member of the Taiwanese girl group S.H.E., was burned when she and co-star Yu Haoming were shooting an explosion scene of the new drama "I Have a Date with Spring." The singer received burns to 54 percent of her body. She has had two skin grafts and will take at least a year to recover. This time, however, Chyi faces the risk of permanent disfigurement.

Chyi's agent said he was fully consciousness when he was taken to the hospital, and his wife Sun Liya and daughter Qi Xin were accompanying him.

The pop star suffered second-degree burns on about 8 percent of his body.

Selina and thousands of other friends and fans wished Chyi a speedy recovery in an outpouring of support for the celebrated crooner in the Chinese blogosphere. Chyi first garnered widespread acclaim in 1981 with the release of his album "See Her Slip Away Again." He is also famous for dating Joey Wong, a top Taiwanese actress. Their relationship lasted about 16 years, from 1985 to 2002. They remain friends.
