The 33-year-old actor will be tried in Haidian District Court in Beijing.

Zhang was seized by the police on July 29 last year along with two of his friends for drug offences.

He was formally charged one month later with the crime of sheltering others to take drugs, after testing positive for marijuana.

This is the second time that Zhang had been charged for drug offences.

He was detained for 13 days for taking drugs at his villa in Shunyi District in Beijing on January 31, 2012.

According to Chinese law, the maximum sentence for this crime is three years in prison as well as a fine.

Earlier this month, Jaycee Chan, son of kung-fu star Jackie Chan, was given a sentence of 6 months in jail for the crime of sheltering others to take drugs.

He was also fined 2,000 yuan, or some 300 US dollars.
