Set during the late Ming Dynasty, this kung fu drama by Lu Yang stars mainland actress Cecilia Liu, actor Wang Qianyuan and Taiwan actor Chang Chen, and tells the story of three close friends who serve as royal guards sent to hunt down a powerful eunuch, Wei Zhongxian, who has been exiled from the capital. However, as they set off on their task, the trio begins to see a conspiracy unfold. The film is not a traditional kung fu offering, as romance and political plots are also heavily involved. The director clearly has a big vision to portray small figures' fate and the chaotic historic era enhanced by delicately crafted scenes and costumes.
