"Dearest," directed by Peter Chan and starring Zhao Wei, Hao Lei, Zhang Yi and Zhang Yuqi, is a tearjerker about child abduction based on real events that seeks to explore and reflect the criminal and ethical issues of this in a changing Chinese society. Following three years of searching for their abducted son, a couple finally locates him in a remote village. After the boy was violently taken away, the heartbroken foster mother goes on a lone journey to get him back. The film resonates with the real victim parents and enhanced social sympathy for the lost children, but the story of the foster mother (a stellar performance by Zhao Wei) also shows another reality involving hardship, love and deep emotions.
