Zhang Yimou returns with his latest film, "Coming Home" after he parted ways with his former partner Zhang Weiping and signed new deal with Le Vision Pictures. This time, he abandoned commercial appeal to pick up one of his favorite themes: a love story with twists and turns that marks a return to his artistic roots. Based on the last 30 pages of the novel "The Criminal Lu Yanshi" by Yan Geling, "Coming Home" starring veterans Gong Li and Chen Daoming tells how a former professor imprisoned in a labor camp in the early 1970s during the Cultural Revolution returns home after three years only to find his wife has suffered amnesia. He tries every possible way revive wife's memory of him and the process proves a touching salvation. Though the romance only has three main characters of father, mother and daughter and its plot and settings are simple, yet Zhang tries to evoke their emotions in an aesthetic way.
