Box office gross: 321 million yuan

Release date: July 10, 2008

The film has kept the record for: 5 months

Box office total gross of all films in China that year: 4.34 billion yuan

In 2008, the director John Woo came back to China to make films after he sought further development in Hollywood. His ancient war epic "Red Cliff" was divided into two parts. The first part broke Zhang Yimou's record to become the highest grossing Chinese-made film with 321 million yuan in ticket sales.

Seven years later, John Woo's new epic "The Crossing" was also divided into two parts for release in China. But the first part didn't make any impressive box office result as the "Red Cliff, Part 1."
