Box office total gross of all films in China that year: 17.073 billion yuan

Though the Chinese film market was booming, "Aftershock" still managed to keep the highest grossing Chinese home-made film record for nearly two years. Then Wuershan's fantasy film "Painted Skin: The Resurrection" took over. Since then, the fantasy films have become the new favorite genre of film investors.

In 2011, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" also grossed 1.081 billion yuan to join the 1 billion Yuan club. Zhang Yimou's "The Flowers Of War" became the annual Chinese film top grosser taking in 609 million yuan, but it didn't break record and was involved in controversy because plots such as "prostitutes saving students." Zhang also parted ways with his long time producer Zhang Weiping after this film.
