As China's political and economical center, Beijing is not only about new skyscrapers and rapidly increasing numbers of cars and entertainment facilities; it also contains numerous residences of the heroes and pioneers of the old days. Today we will guide you to former residences of 10 of Beijing's most historic figures, which vividly illustrate the city's history.

1. Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall

Located in the Badaling Great Wall scenic area and along the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway, Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall was built as a tribute to the distinguished railroad engineer Zhan Tianyou, or Jeme Tien Yow (1861-1919). There are 2,000 items on display, including photos, graphs and terrain relief models, which vividly showcase experiences from Zhan's life.
