Memorial Temple of Lord Bao
Lord Bao, named Bao Zheng, was a famous official during the Northern Song Dynasty. He is known for his excellent personality, fair-minded judgments and strict family education. He made a great contribution to the welfare of the people and so people in Kaifeng built Memorial Temple of Lord Bao to honor him and his good deeds.
The Memorial Temple of Lord Bao is located on the west bank of Lord Bao Lake. Reconstructed on its original site, it is styled after Northern Song Dynasty art and architecture. The temple includes Dadian Palace, Erdian Palace, and some other buildings.
In the center of Dadian Palace there stands a bronze figure of Lord Bao with a height of more than three-meters (approximately 10 feet) and weighs 2.5 tons. Baozheng sits upright dressed in official robes, hat and waist band and wear a solemn expression on his face. One of his hands is placed on the chair and the other is clenched.
In Erdian Palace, the historical materials and classic books about Lord Bao, the poems written by him, monument inscriptions etc… are exhibited.
Other buildings tell the legendary stories of Lord Bao. On the east side of Dadian Palace are three big copper guillotines, namely, Dragon Guillotine, Tiger Guillotine and Dog Guillotine that were once used to punish corrupt officials and ordinary convicts.
