Iron Pagoda (Tie Ta) Park
Iron pagoda, the No.1 pagoda in China and the symbol of Kaifeng city, is located in the northeast of Kaifeng. It was built in 1094 during Song Dynasty. Iron pagoda is built completely of glazed bricks and what brought this name is the color of the bricks that makes it appear like that of iron from a distance.
The thirteen-layered, octagonal pagoda is over 55-meters (180.4 feet) high. The unique construction made of bricks follows the design of wooden pagodas. Apertures, tenons, gouges and slots on the bricks joined securely gave pagoda enough strength to survive earthquakes, flood and destructive human efforts for over 900 years.
