The "Southern Silk Road," an ancient trade route that has a history of more than 2,000 years, served as an important bridge connecting China's southwestern regions with Southeast, South and West Asia, and even countries in Europe.

China has had trade, religious and cultural exchanges with South Asian countries by way of the road since ancient times.

The route, which stretches more than 2,000 kilometers, started from Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan Province. It wandered through cities in Sichuan and finally took traders to Myanmar by way of Yunnan Province. Then, it extended through to India, Bangladesh and even the Middle East.

The route features splendid natural scenery and fascinating cultures and customs.

The most representative cultural products along the route include silk, Sichuan brocade (a traditional silk product from Sichuan Province) and tea.

As the starting point of the road, Sichuan is ushering in new opportunities for its tourism development.

China is reviving the ancient road to further cooperation with countries along the once-booming trade route.
