The Niaodao at Jianmen Pass Scenic Area is a narrow cliff-side sightseeing path. Thirty centimeters in width, 900 meters in length, and 110 meters in elevation difference, the path is steep and dangerous, but affords magnificent and unique views. In addition to the Ancient Shu Roads, the Jianmen Pass Scenic Area is also a place to learn about the Three Kingdom period as well as the Red Culture. Many emperors, ministers and generals, as well as men of letters travelled through the Jianmen Pass in history and written immortal poems about its difficulty of passage. Written records trace the history of the Jianmen section of the Ancient Shu Roads to 2300 years ago. The Shu Roads started from Chengdu in the south and ran northward to Xi’an by way of Guangyuan.
