Langzhong Ancient City, located on the northeastern edge of the Sichuan Basin on the middle reaches of the Jialing River, is a 5A-rated Scenic Area. With a history of 2300 years and acclaimed as the birthplace of the Spring Festival culture, Langzhong is one of the four greatest ancient cities of China. It was an important military position in the State of Ba during the Warring States period as well as in the State of Shu during the Three Kingdom Period. Covering 4.59 square kilometers, the town has eight historical sites on the list of national protection, including the Zhangfei Temple, the Yong’an Temple, the Five Dragon Temple and the Tengwang Pavilion. The town is noted for its diverse culture, ranging from Fengshui, the Three Kingdom history, the Spring Festival origin, the Ancient Imperial Examination system to a great variety of religions. The town, surrounded by rivers on three sides and by mountain on its back, occupies a very auspicious location according to Fengshui theories. Its layout, resembling a huge chessboard, is also designed strictly according to Fengshui Rules. In the center of the town is the Zhongtian Tower and all streets starts here towards different directions. The top of the tower affords a panorama of the town’s Fengshui layout.
