It takes about 2.5 hours to drive from Xichang City to Panzhihua along a highway. You can spend two days in Panzhihua, visiting the Nature Reserve for Cycads and the Gesala Scenic Area, having a drift along the Jinsha River, and enjoying a hot spring in Yanbian County.

Nature Reserve for Cycads: On the right bank of the Baguan River in Panzhihua is a stretch of precious natural cycads. The virgin cycads here are so far the world’s highest in latitude, the largest in area, the most in number and the most concentrated in density. The sago cycas here blossom annually.
