A performance staged in Maoxian County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan shows how Qiang people celebrate their new year on Monday.  The New Year of the Qiang ethnic group falls on October 1 on the lunar calendar every year and October 31 on the solar calendar this year. It is a festival for harvesting, blessing others and praying for safety. Celebrative activities usually last three to five days, in some localities seven to eight days and include a reunion diner, redeeming a vow to a god, drinking local specialty wine and dancing to the hearts’ content.
