Editor's note:

Baima Wanglang scenic area, located in Pingwu County, Mianyang City, Sichuan, is a fascinating tourist destination on par with neighboring Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou. Consisting of twelve separate sections with a combined area of 800 square kilometers, the scenic area is notable for its mysterious and tranquil natural landscape still kept intact. Deep gullies, lush pines, vigorous waterfalls and exotic plants there form picturesque scenery, which changes with the alteration of seasons.

The scenic area is the home of an old, mysterious tribal group-Baima Tibetans, who have lived here for generations. They regard white rooster as their totem and the mountain god as their guardian. They live in wooden buildings and feed on buckwheat and self-made honey wine. They are simple, sing beautifully and dance impassionately.

The scenic area is a paradise for animals and plants. The forest here is the best protected in west China. It also has a complete ecological system. The firs and spruces growing there are of high ornamental value. Besides giant pandas, there also lived other animals under national class-one protection such as the golden monkey and the clouded leopard. Rare plants and flowers like Kingdonia and cuckoo also grow lushly here.
