Sichuan ranks second on a list of the most popular destinations for China's DIY tourists, second only to its neighboring Yunnnan Province, according to the latest report on global self-service tourism released by Mafengwo.cn, a famous tourism information-sharing website.
The province, which is well-known for such attractions as Jiuzhaigou Valley, Mt. Emei and Daocheng, received a total of 527 million domestic tourists in the first nine months of 2016, up 8.6 percent, according to data from Sichuan Provincial Tourism Development Committee.
The province's mouth-watering local dishes also draw numerous gourmet adventure enthusiasts.
The report shows that destinations in southwestern China are the hottest among the country's self-guided tourists.
The report, based on the website's tourism big data and statistics from its partners, aims to interpret the self-guided tourism market at home and changes in self-guided tourists' likings.
