Sichuan registered historical highs in both tourism arrivals and tourism revenue during the seven-day holiday celebrating the 2017 Spring Festival.

Tourism revenue rose 19.6 percent year on year to 35.57 billion yuan and tourist arrivals rose 10.2 percent to 63.84 million, preliminary figures show.

During this most celebrated Chinese festival, local tourism authorities of Sichuan have arranged various cultural and folk activities to woo tourists.

Xichang in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture became for the first time a branch venue for the CCTV Spring Festival gala show this year, which in turn brought in 4.04 million tourists for the city.

Other featured activities were the Panda Light Show and Zhuge Liang Memorial Hall Temple Fair in Chengdu, Jurassic Period International Fireworks Show in Suining, Lizhou Temple Fair in Xichang, Three Kingdoms Cultural Exhibition and Performance in Lanzhong Ancient City, and Sacrifice Offering of the State of Shu in Sanxingdui.

The eleven AAAAA-level (the highest rating for a scenic area) scenic areas in Sichuan received 2.33 million tourists in total during the golden week, accounting for 21 percent of the total tourism arrivals at Sichuan’s 73 key scenic areas.

Tourism products featuring ice and snow as well as hot spring were a hit for winter tourism in Sichuan, with some scenic areas offering such products running at their daily maximum reception capacity during the festival.
