Meishan city will have the largest cherry growing area in China as a tourism program and March is the prime time when cherry trees are in full bloom. The 2017 Sichuan Flowers (Fruits) Tourism and Cherry Blossom Festival opened on March 18 in the city, lasting for 8 days. The main venue of the Cherry Blossom Festival was in Mindong New Area.

Mindong New Area is about to house a cherry culture expo park in which tourists can learn about Cherry culture, appreciate natural beauty, spend a holiday and preserve health. With various kinds of cherry trees, multiple cherry-related industries and rich culture about cherry blossoms, the district will develop into a popular place for people from all over China to view cherry blossoms and a distinctive scenic spot in Sichuan for cultural tourism.

Banks of Minjiang River in Meishan, hometown of famous poet Su Dongpo, are lined with cherry blossoms which form the longest “cherry corridor” in China with a length of over 20 kilometers. The Cherry Blossom Expo Park in Mindong will be the largest of its kind in China with 546,666 square meters. At present, nearly a million cherry trees of over 20 kinds including Chinese red, Zhaojun, Xishi, Yang Guifei, Baimiao and Fulushou are available to be viewed in places with a combined area of over 470 square kilometers.
