Construction of the terminal of Chengdu Tianfu International Airport began Wednesday, marking the start of the airport’s construction in an all round way.
Resembling a holy bird with a sun on its back, the terminal covers 600,000 square meters.
Terminal 1, handling both international and domestic flights, takes up 330,000 square meters, and Terminal 2, responsible for domestic flights only, takes up the remaining 270,000 square meters.
There is a 80,000-square meter Ground Transport Center.
The terminal is capable of handling 28 million domestic trips and 12 million international trips by 2025.
Tianfu airport, scheduled for opening in 2020, makes Chengdu the third city in China to have two airports for commercial flights, after Beijing and Shanghai.
