“Cultural China • Splendid Sichuan,” an overseas cultural promotion campaign by Sichuan, was launched in Colombo, the largest city in Sri Lanka, on June 4, according to the overseas Chinese affairs office of the provincial government.

This was the first time for the campaign to come to a South Asian country.

Yi Xianliang, Chinese ambassador in Sri Lanka, along with high-ranking Sri Lankan officials, attended the launching ceremony.

Artists of acrobat, hand shadow, puppet, face-changing, erhu, singing and dancing from Sichuan Opera House, Sichuan Music Conservatory and Chengdu Associated Theatre of Performing Art performed at the Colombo Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre for an audience of 700, winning ceaseless applause.

A photo exhibition, covering the natural environment, history, culture and development of Sichuan, was also staged on the same occasion to promote Sichuan’s image as a place that has beautiful landscape, rich cultural heritage and vigorous development.

Bangladesh was also on the campaign’s South Asian trail.
