The China National Tourism Administration awarded a plaque bearing the Chinese characters meaning “Demonstrative City for Tourism and Leisure Development”to Chengdu and nine other cities at its recent conference to promote the integration of tourism with other industries in a region.

Dujiangyan, Wenjiang and Qionglai, three county-level divisions under Chengdu, aim to achieve such integration in the coming two or three years.

An official from Chengdu’s tourism bureau said: “The designation reflects the strong sense of happiness and the high quality of local life experienced by tourists and residents alike.”

According to an industry standard entitled “Demonstrative cities for tourism and leisure development,” in order to win the title, a city must have extraordinary tourism and leisure functions, a complete tourism and leisure industry, a good environment for tourism and leisure, an ability to meet the need of tourists and residents for travel and leisure, and the qualities needed to serve as a typical model in China.
