Liang Yusheng is the pseudonym of Chen Wentong. He was born in Mengshan County of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on April 5, 1924. Liang studied economics at Lingnan University in Guangzhou. He was an enthusiastic fan of traditional Chinese culture and literature. In 1949, he joined the Hong Kong newspaper Ta Kung Pao as an editor. He has written 35 novels, including Seven Swords and The Bride with White Hair. Liang moved to Australia in 1987 and passed away in Sydney on January 22, 2009.
Liang was acknowledged as the first writer of Chinese new martial arts novels, which were written in modern Chinese and adopted a western detective-fiction plot. His first novel, written in 1954, was Tiger and Dragon Fighting in Beijing. Liang's works have been adapted into numerous TV series and movies and are popular among Chinese people.
