Movie star Shing Fui-on was born in a village in Hong Kong on February 1, 1955, and died of nasopharyngeal cancer on August 27, 2009, after fighting the disease for five years. Shing began to work in the film industry at the age of 13. Hong Kong director Danny Lee discovered his talent in 1978, when Shing played a role in Lee's film, "The Law Enforcer." Since then, Shing has played in about 350 films and roughly 600 TV episodes. He is renowned both in Hong Kong and in mainland China for his memorable gangster and comedian acts. Shing won the nickname "Da Sha" (meaning "big fool") after playing a character of the same name in the film "Prison on Fire" in 1987.
