Zhang Weigong is chairman and president of the Sunshine Insurance Group, one of China's seven leading insurance groups and ranking among the nation's top 500 enterprises.
Zhang was an official with the Chinese insurance regulatory authorities before he set up Sunshine Property and Casualty Insurance Co., Ltd. in 2005. Sunshine Life Insurance Co., Ltd. was established in 2007. Sunshine Insurance Group was established in 2008 and its revenues hit 30 billion yuan (4.8 billion USD) in 2012, with assets in excess of 80 billion yuan (12.8 billion USD). The Group has become one of the top eight insurance companies in China.
