Song has over 30 years of experience in the business and management of China's building materials industry. In 2002, he served as general manager of CNBM when the company was actually on the verge of bankruptcy. Song took over the wheel and embarked on a major process of reform and restructuring, eliminating the company's difficulties and making it the second largest building materials enterprise in the world. In 2012, the company's revenues exceeded 200 billion yuan (32 billion USD).
In 2009, Song also served as chairman of the China National Medicine Corporation (CNMC). The company's revenues reached 125 billion yuan (20 billion USD) in 2011, from 40 billion yuan (6.4 billion USD) three years earlier. Its 2012 revenues are expected to exceed 160 billion yuan (25.7 billion USD) and make CNMC become the first Chinese pharmaceutical enterprise on the world's top 500 companies list.
