The October Revolution and the construction of Marxist political parties

A century ago, under the leadership of the proletarian revolutionary Vladimir Lenin, the October Revolution broke out in Russia. Its successful conclusion created a new era in the history of scientific socialism and the international communist movement. A hundred years later, socialism with Chinese characteristics has added historic changes and achievements, entering onto a new stage of development that is also an epochal event with world historical significance.
The success of the October Revolution is attributable to the strong leadership of the proletarian advanced political party that Lenin created. The success of socialism with Chinese characteristics is attributable to the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China – the advanced political party of Marxism. The important revelations created by the October Revolution for the construction of Marxist political parties can be described as follows:
First, we should take Marxism as a blueprint for building of a Marxist advanced political party that can keep pace with the times in terms of its guiding ideology. The success of the October Revolution was due to the existence of the Bolshevik Party fortified with Marxism-Leninism. Nowadays, under the conditions created by a new stage in the development of Chinese socialism, to carry out the great struggle, pursue the great undertaking, push forward the great cause and realize the great dream, we still need to maintain and carry forward the longstanding theoretical character of Marxist political parties of being able to develop with the times and to bravely promote theoretical innovation based on practice. On the basis of upholding the basic principles of Marxism, we need to consider and thoroughly understand a series of major strategic issues involved in the future development of the country with a broader perspective and long-term vision.
Second, we should take democratic centralism as the core to build a strong and powerful political party based on Marxism. The success of the October Revolution benefited from the existence of the powerful Bolshevik Party and its strong central leadership. Nowadays, our Party is uniting and leading the people to carry out the great struggle, push forward the great cause and realize the great dream. As a result, we must unswervingly adhere to and improve the Party's leadership, and continue to press ahead with the great undertaking of Party's construction in order for it to be able to become a more powerful Party. The key is to build a keen awareness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, uphold the leadership core, and keep in alignment. We must always maintain a high degree of consistency in our ideology and action along with the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, sincerely offering support and firmly safeguarding the core and consciously always aligning with it.
Third, we should take the Party constitution, rules and disciplines as the standard to build a Marxist political party with iron discipline. The success of the October Revolution benefited from such strong discipline. "One has to be very strong if he wants to strike iron." At present, to carry out the great struggle with many new historical features and effectively respond to all kinds of risks and challenges, we must build a capable and strong Party. The most fundamental aspect in practicing strict Party self-governance is to ensure the whole Party, all the Party members and cadres, act in accordance with the Party's standards for political life and the provisions clearly set out by the Party. We must abide by political discipline and rules, steadily strengthen awareness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, uphold the leadership core, and keep in alignment. We must adhere to the set political beliefs, take a firm political stand and aim at the right political direction, so as to continuously promote the management and administration of the Party from "loose soft" to "strict hard."
