11, Faye Wong, Rock Records and nostalgia

Diva Faye Wong kicked off her comeback concert tour in Beijing in October 2010, but she didn't stop there. Her comeback tour became a phenomenon and she subsequently toured Taipei, Hong Kong, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Changsha, Wuhan and Kuala Lumpur. Fourteen concerts in seven major cities earned her 100 million yuan (US$15.88 million) this year alone. But her comeback success was just the tip of 2011's nostalgia iceberg.

To mark the 30th anniversary of Rock Records, Asia's largest independent record label founded in 1980, the label's former and current artists held anniversary concerts in various cities, including Taipei, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen. More than 50 big names including Wakin Chau, Cheer Chen, Mayday, Lo Ta-yu, Rene Liu, Richie Ren and many more all performed in the marathon concerts which each usually lasted from 4 to 6 hours. The concerts were in memory of 30 years of Chinese pop music and involved hundreds of singers, and more than 20,000 pop songs from more than 1,800 albums.

The success of these nostalgia-fests proves that people love looking back and reliving the past to the soundtrack of their youth.
