The group comprises more than 27,000 people living in compact communities in Longchuan and Lianghe counties in the Dehong Dai-Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. The Achang people normally live in villages separate from those of the Dai and Han peoples. They use their own spoken language and the Han Chinese script.
