The group comprises some 13,000 people, with the majority living in Ili, Tacheng, Altay and Urumqi, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the rest scattered in Heilongjiang Province and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The Russian people have their own spoken and written language.
