Dalian Economic and Technological Development Area |
Established in October 1984, the Dalian Economic and Technological Development Area was the first national-level economic and technological development area approved by the State Council. It has developed from a desolate area with only a few small fishing villages and farms to a new dynamic urban area coving 405 square kilometers with a population of 600,000.
Eight industrial sectors dominate the DDA: the petrochemical industry, automobile and component parts, equipment manufacturing, IT, shipbuilding and component parts, bioengineering and pharmaceuticals, materials engineering, and light industry.
By now, more than 2,300 foreign-funded companies from 47 countries and regions have invested in the area, of which at least 42 are Fortune Global 500 companies such as Intel, Canon, Toshiba, Volkswagen, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, ThyssenKrupp and Fuji.
