Shanghai Caohejing Hi-tech Park

Shanghai Caohejing Hi-tech Park was first established in November 1984 as the Caohejing Microelectronic Industrial Zone. Covering an area of 14.28 square kilometers, it was approved as a national-level economic and technological development zone in June 1988.

Today, CHJ is the home to more than 1,500 domestic and foreign tech enterprises, including over 500 foreign-invested firms, representing a diverse set of industries including information technology, new materials, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, aeronautics and astronautics and automotive accessories. Over 50 corporations on the Fortune Global 500 list have set up more than 90 enterprises in the park, including GE, Philips, Schneider, Cisco, Samsung, Starbucks, Honda and Denso.

In 2010, CHJ had sales revenue of 218.89 billion yuan (US$34.26 billion), gross industrial output value of 125.31 billion yuan (US$19.61 billion), gross regional product of 67.03 billion yuan (US$10.49 billion), and total trade volume of US$18.03 billion, making its index of development and efficiency ranking the best among the top 10 national-level development zones.
