Located southeast of the capital, the construction of the Beijing Economic-technological Development Area broke ground in 1992, covering an area of 46.8 square kilometers. It was ratified by the State Council as a national-level economic and technological development zone in August 1994.

BDA has attracted the investment of numerous domestic and foreign enterprises from the manufacturing-oriented services, equipment manufacturing, automobile, bioengineering, new medicine and IT industries.

A number of international brands such as Nokia, Benz, GE, Bosch Rexroth, Kimberly-Clark, LG, ABB, Tetra Pak, Sanyo, Panasonic, and Schneider have chosen to locate in the BDA. It has become one of the hottest investment spots in China.
