Fujian Province is situated on the southeast coast of China. Its key industries include non-ferrous, auto, shipping, petro-chemistry, textiles, light industrial, forestry, machinery, equipment manufacturing, electronics and information.
Fujian's GDP rose from 0.76 trillion yuan (US$95.34 billion) in 2006 to 1.47 trillion yuan (US$217.15 billion) in 2010, when the GDP per capita was 40,025 yuan(US$5,913), a 89.6 percent increase from 2006. Its energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP dropped by 13.67 percent from 0.907 tons of standard coal in 2006 to 0.783 tons in 2010.
The total output of hi-tech industries hit 707.36 billion yuan (US$104.49 billion) in 2010, 2.4 times that of 2006. The added value accounted for 12.8 percent of the provincial GDP. The province's R&D spending hit 17.09 billion yuan (US$2.52 billion) in 2010, 2.5 times that of 2006.
The foreign direct investment surged by 43.7 percent from US$7.18 billion in 2006 to US$10.32 billion in 2010. Its foreign trade value rose from US$62.66 billion in 2006 to US$108.78 billion in 2010, of which export was US$71.49 billion, up by 73.3 percent from 2006.
