Liaoning, a province in Northeastern China, mainly depends on equipment and machinery manufacturing, metallurgy, petrol-chemicals and farm produce processing for its economic development.

The province's GDP rose from 0.93 trillion yuan (US$116.66 billion) in 2006 to 1.85 trillion yuan (US$273.28 billion) in 2010, when the GDP per capita was 42,355 yuan(US$6,257), 1.93 times that of 2006. Its energy consumption per 10,000 yuan of GDP dropped by 22.25 percent from 1.775 tons of standard coal in 2006  to 1.38 tons in 2010.

The large-scale hi-tech industries in the province posted 1.16 trillion yuan (US$171.36 billion) in total value and 312.56 billion yuan(US$46.17 billion) in added value in 2010, 2.7 times and 3.3 times that of 2005, respectively. The number accounted for 17 percent of the provincial GDP, 8 percentage points more than in 2005. The province's R&D spending hit 28.75 billion yuan (US$4.25 billion) in 2010, 2.1 times that of 2006.

The foreign direct investment was US$20.75 billion in 2010, 3.5 times that of 2006. Its foreign trade value rose from US$48.39 billion in 2006 to US$80.67 billion in 2010, of which export was US$ 43.12 billion, up by 52.3 percent from 2006.
