As the first woman to head the International Monetary Fund, French lawyer Christine Lagarde stepped into the breach after her compatriot Dominique Strauss-Kahn resigned due to a sex scandal. Lagarde faces daunting tasks, including confronting the European debt crisis and reforming the IMF. As one of the longest-serving ministers under French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Lagarde made the country's labor market rules more flexible. Now, as the 9th most powerful woman in the world as ranked by Forbes magazine, can she handle a more complicated and bigger issue in a flexible manner? Can she restore the IMF's reputation which was tarred by her predecessor? All we can say is, "Bonne chance, Madame!"
