Yingluck made history after becoming the first female prime minister of Thailand. Born to a rich and famous family, Yingluck has been trying to distance herself from the controversial influence of her family, especially her exiled elder brother- former Prime Minister-Thaksin Shinawatra. Yingluck won the July election with her accessible, confident and pragmatic style. Not long after taking office, Yingluck faced a political test caused by the country's most ferocious floods in 50 years and doubts from critics and political opponents. However, Yingluck took direct command of flood control and united the nation at a difficult time with her down-to-earth policies. As a result, media reports now refer to "PM Yingluck" rather than "Thaksin's sister."
