Forest Fires in NE China Under Control
A total of five forest fires, which broke out since Sept. 29 in Nenjiang County of Heilongjiang Province, had been under control by Thursday afternoon. The fires devour nearly 10,000 hectares of forests but cause no casualty. Local authorities have detained six suspects during their initial investigations.
Exports Buoyant as Trade Volume Rockets
A report completed by the Ministry of Commerce's Department of Foreign Trade said the country's two-way foreign trade will hit US$1.4 trillion, and it forecasted a trade surplus of US$90 billion to 100 billion this year.
10 Confirmed Dead in Liaoning's Molybdenum Mine Accident
Ten people were confirmed dead when illegally mining in a molybdenum mine Sunday night in northeast China's Liaoning Province, a local official said Wednesday. In another two accidents, fourteen miners who have been trapped in a coal mine blast in Xinjiang since Tuesday morning were confirmed dead, and the death toll in a coal mine flooding that occurred in Sichuan Tuesday night has risen to 12.
Typhoon Longwang Claims 65, Dozens Missing
The death toll from Typhoon Longwang in east China's Fujian Province reached 65 last night, including 50 caused by mountain torrents that hit an armed police school in Fuzhou, the provincial capital, Sunday night. Around 5,500 houses were toppled and 98,000 hectares of crops in Fujian were damaged by the typhoon.
China Calls for Healthy Int'l Disarmament Process
The international community should strengthen cooperation to promote the healthy development of international arms control, disarmament and nonproliferation process, Hu Xiaodi, Chinese ambassador on disarmament affairs, said Tuesday.
Rescue Work Ends, 27 Bodies Recovered
The bodies of 27 coal miners have been raised up to the ground. A total of 34 miners were confirmed dead in a gas explosion in a coal mine belonging to the Henan Hebi Coal (group) Company Monday morning. Rescue work ended at 8:00 PM Monday.
13,000 People Evacuated in Hubei Province
About 13,000 people affected by a flood in central China's Hubei Province have moved to safe places, according to a source of the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters on Monday.
