ICBC Joint-stock Reform Endorsed
The State Council has authorized a joint-stock reform plan for the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and has committed US$15 billion of the country's foreign exchange reserves to help finance it.
China, France Sign Deals Worth 3 Bn Euros
China and France reached a three-billion-euro deal that includes the purchase of five Airbus A380 and 25 A320 planes on Thursday morning, during French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin's three-day official visit to Beijing.

White Paper on IPR Protection Published
The State Council Information Office published on Thursday a white paper titled New Progress in China's Protection of Intellectual Property Rights. The nine-chapter report discusses the policies adopted and actions taken by the government to protect IPR during the past decade. The last white paper on this topic was published in 1994.
China, Australia Sign MOU on FTA Talks
Visiting Australian Prime Minister John Howard told Premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing on Monday that Australia would recognize China as a full market economy. The two nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding to start talks on a free trade area.
Taiwan's PFP Chairman Invited
The Communist Party of China has formally invited the chairman of the People First Party of Taiwan, James Soong, to visit the mainland, a senior official announced yesterday. It follows the successful trip by a Kuomintang delegation last month and news of an expected visit from their chairman.
China Fights Doping in Sports
China has stepped up its battle against doping in recent years, upgrading technology, expanding testing and assessing more serious penalties against violators. Zhang Changjiu, chairman of the Asian Medicine Association's Anti-doping Commission, said that more is being done to prepare for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and to correct problems in non-Olympic events.
President Hu Visits Israel Epstein
Chinese President Hu Jintao Sunday paid a visit to Israel Epstein, a veteran journalist and writer, on the eve of his 90th birthday. He praised Epstein for his "outstanding contributions" to China's progress and his "sincere affection for China and the Chinese people" in the past dozens of years.
Foreign Ministry Opens House to Public
For the third time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted 160 visitors on its "Open Day" on Friday, which included a real tour of the grand lobby of the ministry building, an archive exhibition and other activities. The ministry will hold two open days in each year.

Textile Firms Prepare for Import Restrictions
The industrial association of Chinese textile makers said on Friday it was helping enterprises prepare for possible safeguard measures from the United States and the European Union. It has drafted a plan for quantity distribution based on the exports of each company in the first quarter of this year.
