Beijing fell to fourth place after Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou in terms of competitiveness according to an annual ranking issued Thursday. The change was explained by a new appraisal method that included power and water consumption as well as environmental pollution.
China to Build Nat'l Database for Personal Credit Info
The People's Bank of China is soliciting opinions on a draft regulation for a national personal credit database. The database, in trial operation linking banks in seven cities since last year, is expected to extend nationwide by the end of the year.

Oil Companies Ink Landmark S. China Sea Agreement

The 10th National People's Congress adopted the Anti-Secession Law with an overwhelming vote of 2,896 to none at the closing meeting of its Third Session in Beijing Monday, setting up a legal framework to prevent Taiwan's secession from China and to promote peaceful national reunification. The State Administration for Industry and Commerce revealed on Thursday that products containing Sudan I, a potentially cancer-causing colorant, have spread into nine provinces. The affected provinces include Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Chongqing Municipality and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
CPPCC Concludes Annual Session
China's top advisory body, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), concluded its annual full session in Beijing Saturday afternoon, vowing to better serve the country's peaceful reunification and the building of a "harmonious society."
