Yahoo Pumps US$1 Billion into China's Alibaba
Yahoo Inc. will pump US$1 billion into China's largest e-commerce website Alibaba.com, it was announced in Beijing yesterday. China is now the second largest Internet market in the world with over 103 million netizens and its e-commerce market worth in 2005 is an estimated 620 billion RMB (US$76.5 billion).
Basket of Currencies Revealed
The governor of China's central bank revealed yesterday the basket of currencies used to determine the value of the yuan. The currencies were chosen in accordance to their share of China's foreign trade, foreign debt and foreign direct investment.
Central Bank Opens 2nd HQ in Shanghai
The People's Bank of China opened its second headquarters in Shanghai Wednesday. The Shanghai headquarters are designed to enhance the bank's ability to regulate the country's financial market and provide better service.
