Bright Prospects for Further China-ASEAN Cooperation
Two forums were held yesterday in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as part of the Second China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit. Participants from China and ASEAN member countries expressed the desire for further economic and trade cooperation.
Full-fledged Reform Waiting in the Wings
The central government's new Five-Year Plan typically lists medium-term policies concerning the country's economic and social development. A communiqué released by the CPC introduced many new concepts, ideas and goals for building a well-rounded and affluent society. Many economists and scholars have highly praised the plan. They also offered more suggestions, according to a Shanghai Securities Journal report.
Olympic Flag Unfurled After Space Journey
An Olympic flag that orbited the Earth for five days in Shenzhou VI was taken from the returned reentry capsule and unfurled at the Chinese Academy of Space Technology in Beijing yesterday, one of 64 items taken on the trip.
Chinese Leaders Meet Rumsfeld
President Hu Jintao and Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan each met with visiting US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Wednesday in Beijing. Both sides have agreed to make concerted efforts to further promote relations between the two nations and their armies.
2nd China-ASEAN Expo Opens
The 2nd China-ASEAN Expo was declared opened today in Nanning by Vice President Zeng Qinghong. Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai was also in attendance, as were Ong Keng Yong, secretary general of the ASEAN Secretariat, and many ASEAN leaders.
White Paper on Political Democracy Published
The State Council Information Office published on Wednesday a white paper entitled Building of Political Democracy in China. The document, composed of 10 chapters, gives a detailed account of the inception, development, contents and principles of the country's political democracy. This is the first time for the Chinese government to issue a white paper on political democracy.
Agro Trade Deficit Predicted to Fall
The Ministry of Agriculture said yesterday it expected China to reduce its farm products trade deficit this year, and that inspections have found agricultural products to be generally safe.
CPC's Proposal for Five-Year Plan Issued
The full text of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's proposal on the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010) was released yesterday, one week after the session at which it was adopted ended.

Shenzhou VI Lands Safely After Successful Mission
Shenzhou VI's reentry capsule, carrying Fei Junlong and Nie Haisheng, landed safely at 4:33 AM today, marking a "complete success" for China's second manned space mission after it put its first national in space two years ago, said top legislator Wu Bangguo.
